Lockdown extended for two weeks!

Today marks the last day of the first 21day lockdown. President  Mnangagwa issued a press statement where he announced that the manufacturing sector is to be opened at a limited scale with various restrictions and strict monitoring measures.

He announced that the mining sector will resume its operations under certain specified conditions. The Zimbabwean community, like the rest of the world, has been fighting the Covid19 pandemic. The country is slowly beginning to go back to operations and the economy has been affected by this total shutdown.

The reason why the President extended the lockdown is the virus is still spreading. In our country and also in other countries new cases are still being recorded every day. The virus has not stopped spreading and lifting the lockdown would cause a catastrophe. The fact that Zimbabwe is approaching its winter season is also another reason to be extremely cautious.

On the other hand, it is very difficult to keep the country’s economy alive while everything is shutdown. Most of the country’s population works in the informal sector. The informal sector puts food on the table for most families. The lockdown has hence been a very big setback for most families and also for the country’s economy.
